  • Just start

I want you to start a business. No, I want you to do more than that. I want you to start a business today. You don’t have to quit your job. You don’t need to write a business plan. You don’t need anyone’s permission.

You only need one thing: an appointment with yourself, another person, or a product. An appointment is how you take the first step toward making something happen.

Let me explain what I mean by an appointment and how it works. It’s not as simple as buying a ticket for a movie or making reservations at a restaurant (although those are fine appointments). An appointment is an important date with yourself or someone else that gets things going in your life–and it’s not negotiable.

The two major causes why people never set a date for starting their business is because they are not sure what their business is going to be about or they are apprehensive things won’t work out.

In my view, these are excuses used by people who simply aren’t ready to commit to starting something on their own. This is understandable — after all, entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone! But if the excuses sound familiar, here’s my advice: Get over it and make the appointment

  • Stop researching and start doing

If you want to start a business, stop researching it–just get started! Starting a business is the biggest hurdle to overcome. Researching about the business could come later. Don’t want to waste your time with the same old information that’s been written over and over again. And certainly don’t read articles telling you what you already know like how to start a business or the best business in Tamil Nadu or Kerala. Once you’ve researched enough, you already know how to start; it’s time to stop talking about it and actually do it. If you are still hesitant you can do one of the following things:

Stop researching and instead do one or more of the following things:

  • Sign up for as many newsletters as possible (you should be getting at least 30 emails per day).
  • Start a blog or website (even if it’s really bad).
  • Create an account on freelancing platforms where you can showcase your work.
  • Find a mentor
  • Set up a 30-day challenge

30-day challenges are a tool that can help you accomplish many things, from quitting smoking to starting a business. You can use this in your favour to start a business.
