The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, a recruiting body under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, conducts exams for employment for various nationalized banks, regional rural banks and other financial institutions. The recruitment drive is for Group A, B, C and D employees in a homogeneous system of appraisal. Indian banks were nationalized in 1969. To expand their network and customer base, they needed proficient employees. But recruiting through paper advertisement was time-consuming and unsatisfactory. Thus they requested the National Institute of Bank Management to recommend a benchmark recruitment system. Consequently, Personnel Selection Service was established, which in turn became a comprehensive recruitment agency IBPS in 1984.
4 Class of Exams
Initially, each bank conducted a spate exam, and candidates had to answer multiple questions, but the practice was changed in 2012. Four different classes of exams are conducted by IBPS that is:
- IBPS PO/MT for Probationary Officers and Management trainees for various participating banks.
- IBPS SO for the post of specialized Officer (Scale 1) for public sector banks.
- IBPS clerk for various participating national banks.
- IBPS RRB Officer Scale 1 for employment of Officers (Scale 1) for RRBs.
- IBPS RRB office (Scale ii, III) these posts are the counterpart of specialized officers and senior managers of PSU banks, respectively.
Exams Are Exceedingly Competitive
The pattern of the IBPS bank exam differs for each category but starts with a common written exam(CWE), followed by a group discussion and personal interview. For IBPS Clerk and PO, there are two phases of exams prelim and mains successful prelim candidates are eligible for the main exam. All IBPS exams are highly competitive. Body Language Crucial
In an interview round, your body language is as important as communication skills. Your answer about yourself must be confident and honest; you are expected to give a fluent, accurate answer about the subject you choose. When you introduce yourself, provide all relevant information with poise to the interview panel. The prologue must not exceed two minutes. You must have in-depth knowledge about the bank, its assets base, specific operational area and current events regarding the organization. Provide statistical data to strengthen your point of view on the growth rate, how the banking sector affects all sectors of industry, and how the interest rate impact growth of the economy.
The first impression is crucial, so get groomed properly and with positive body language. The attire must be formal and comfortable. Avoid too stiff or loose a dress. You must have a clear perception of your strength and limitation; never provide false information in your resume, as they ask lots of questions about your academic and personal life.
